Leeds College of Art - Jewellery Making

silver necklaceEssentially for beginners, but the course is structured to allow more experienced makers to come and learn something new too, and develop a broad base of skills. The 3 terms are split into 3 main projects - September is 'Textures', January is 'Form', and April is 'Colour'. Within those areas, students will explore methods used to create the particular theme, and learn basic techniques in jewellery making, then they design, under supervision, the self directed project. Finally, students will make their project based on the main theme of the term. Students can dip in and out of the programme, but will need to complete all three modules to move to level 2.

For beginners in Jewellery Making, though more advanced students are welcome to come and adapt the projects to their needs - a series of projects to allow you to explore and learn basic techniques for making wire based jewellery. You will make something to take home every week, be it practice pieces or finished work. Basic projects, you input the choices of colours, beads, styling. All the tools you need available from the tutor, plus advice about supplies, etc, with a mobile shop available for small quantities of essentials. At the end you should be able to make your own basic jewellery, and with an inexpensive set of basic tools, you could continue to develop or make items at home.
